To Nub a NUb…That Is the Question!

And it’s one with an easy answer. The stunted NUb cigar took the cigar-smoking world by storm just slightly over a year ago as Sam Leccia introduced a completely off-the-wall concept for a cigar. Coming in at or just under 4″ in length with a hefty ring guage varying from a thick 58 to an even thicker 64, the NUb is a short fatty. And it was designed purposely this way. Sam’s idea, according to his website NUbcigar.com, was to create a cigar that didn’t build up into its potential as it was smoked, but rather wanted that cigar’s full potential to smack you in the face from the get-go.

The NUb cigars were reviewed here at Cigar Command when they first came out, and I could probably stand to do an update review, but you can see what Scott had to say about these cigars last year by clicking here.  Having had a few of these in the past few weeks, my latest one as early as yesterday, I have to say that I’m still on board with these.  While the cigar is only 4″ long, that does not make it a short smoke.  It’s quite easy to pull an hour, if not more, out of a NUb.  I think they’re also fun little cigars.  I’m not one for longest ash competitions, but because of the marketing of the NUb and it’s stand-on-end claims and pictures, I find myself trying to hold onto the ash as long as possible.  And while I subconsciously know it should be no problem to get a 3″ ash out of a 4″ cigar, because I can often do it with a 6″ cigar, it’s still more fun for me to do with the NUb.  Go figure.

Anyway, if you haven’t had a NUb, I suggest you at least give them a try.  While they might not be the best cigar you’ve ever had, they’re definitely a very, very good cigar.  And as for the answer to the question…I came close to burning my fingers yesterday with the NUb Cameroon that I enjoyed.
