Terrorism in the Cigar World?
Well, not exactly. I wanted to take a little time today to discuss one of the facets of the internet cigar world that fascinates me to no end. CIGAR BOMBS!!! “What?” you say? Well, for those of you who frequent cigar internet forums, I’m sure you already know what I’m talking about, but for those of you who don’t: cigar bombs are, well…the bomb.
So, what am I talking about? Basically, a cigar bomb is a random act of generosity from one cigar lover to another. Basically, one person will decide they want to “bomb” another person. It could be for any reason: good friend, nice guy (or gal), want to share their favorite smokes, etc. They pick a selection of cigars from their humidor, package them up, and send them on their way without the recipient’s knowledge. Then one day, the recipient comes home….BLAM! They’re knocked cold from the blast of unexpected generosity.
These acts fascinate me because I’ve seen them get to levels of generosity and friendship that truly give me hope in the human race. Sometimes, they escalate into full scale wars with cigar bombs flying back and forth, but what really is great about all of this is the attitude behind the bombs. You see the expectations with cigar bombs are that there are no expectations. It’s not a trade, so the giver expects nothing in return. There’s no expectations from the recipient, because, well, they just got free cigars…and who’s never happy about that?
Now, cigar bombs aren’t just about cigars…you can bomb using any type of ammo you wish or a mixture of stuff. I’ve received t-shirts, CDs, pipes, hats…. Cigar bombs, also, aren’t just about sending stuff. Maybe you want to make someone’s day, maybe they’re down on their luck, maybe you want them to try a cigar you like, or maybe you just have too many cigars and need to make room. Whatever the reason, cigar bombs make everyone’s day better, and truly show you the meaning of the saying, “it’s better to give than receive.”
So, if you’ve never sent a cigar bomb, I suggest you try it. You can get some help by looking at some internet cigar forums. I recommend Club Stogie or Cigar Live as they’re quite active in these arenas. My only advice is that once you pick a target, personalize the bomb…it makes them so much better.
