Welcome to the Asylum!

Okay, so I know this place gets crazy, but it’s not the asylum I’m talking about.  With the latest consolidation of a lot of popular cigar forums, well, the one place that consolidated seems not-so-popular lately with many of its members.  So, many people are looking for a new cigar forum to call home.  There are a few good ones out there left over from before, but the one I frequent is Cigar Asylum.  I’d been a member of Club Stogie for a few years, and now that there’s no Club Stogie, many of my friends, BOTL/SOTL, have moved to Cigar Asylum.  So, if you haven’t heard about it and are looking for a new cigar forum home…check it out. Or maybe you’re just addicted to cigar forums and call many places home. You can check it out too.

  1. Ricky hit it on the head using the terms friends and home. A large portion of the network of diverse friends which made up the community at Club Stogie and to an extent Cigar Live relocated to Cigarasylum (An invite only site cigaroutcast is the new home for many CL folks) once the nature of the new mega site became clear.

No place is perfect. They are all made up of us imperfect folks who interact in the environments created by these on line forums. A love of cigars and cigar folks is the common bond. The one clear message from all this has been there is more to cigar communities than URLs.

All of the forums consolidated were commercial in nature. To varying extents their members knew this. The consolidation of things based upon purchasing the sites put the issue of commercialization and culture clash front and center. Folks made and make their own decisions where to hang out every time they choose to click on one place or another. The absence of manufacturer or retailer ads and financial support in each of these new forums puts them in objective positions for knowledge exchange and interaction without concern over offending the folks site owners typically depend on for financial gain. Try putting up a “XXX Cigars Suck” thread on the mega site, where XXX is a sponsor, for an example of this financial prejudice.

Anyhoo, there are still many good sites out there. Everyone can find information and friendly interaction at the one that best suits them.
