Cigar Review: Don Pepin Garcia – El Centurion Guerreros

It was brought to my attention on one of the many cigar forums that I participate on, that we hadn’t reviewed the Don Pepin Garcia El Centurion yet. I smoked one yesterday, and it was a good smoke, well worthy of smoking again for a review. This morning at about 6:30 am, I decided I would light up one in the robusto size for my morning smoke. I grabbed my cup of black Jose’s vanilla bean coffee, and ventured out to my smoking deck.

Pre-light: On pre-light, I ran the cigar the length of my nose, and got lots of sweetness with some leathery notes, along with a slight hint of a fruit or floral smell. I clipped the triple cap with my trusty palio, and took a pre-light draw. The fruit and floral flavor came through with a vengeance. The draw was a little on the loose side, but not enough to deter me from smoking.

1/3: As I lit this up, the floral and fruit notes hit me like a hammer. The way they were mixing was very nice. It went perfect with my coffee. As I continued on the smoke, the floral notes mellowed, and I started to get a woodsy taste out of it. The burn was moving along a little faster than I would like, but I credit that to the fact that I was probably smoking it too fast. It was just too good at this point. The ash was holding fairly solid, but I usually tap the ash off at this point, just to keep it from dropping in my lap.

2/3: On the 2nd 3rd, I got alot more of the woodsy notes, and the fruit and floral notes seemed to diminish a bit. So far, the smoke has been very consistent, with some changing of flavors and complexity. At this point I am FULLY enjoying the smoke, and its causing me to forget the cold thats nipping at my hands.

3/3: The floral notes and sweetness started to come back full force, but this time, they intermingled with the woodsy notes. This is where the cigar got nicely complex. The combination of all the flavors was just outstanding. At this point, my coffee was getting cold, because I wasn’t drinking it. I was just too concentrated on this stick to do anything else at that point. I was LOVING the flavors. It had me daydreaming as I smoked. I’ve never had a cigar do that for me.

All in all, I smoked it straight to the nub. I smoked it until I couldn’t hold onto it anymore. It never got hot or harsh, and the cigar never burned my mouth or my fingers. All in all, this is a HIGHLY recommended cigar.

  1. I have yet to have one of these. They sound great. It’s hard to get to all of the sticks that Pepin makes; he makes so many.

  2. Ricky, I think I have an extra in the humi… I could send it to you ;)
