Cigar Review: Graycliff 1666 PG

Graycliff

This recent release from the widely acclaimed Graycliff has recently begun making a splash in the cigar world. Lucky for me, our sponsor Cigars Direct graciously sent me a couple of samples to review. Now, before I begin, let me just say that I’ve always been wary of Graycliffs. Not for any other reason than their price. Of course, with a master cigar man like Avelino Lara, I can understand it… a little. So, let’s get to it.

Appearance: First impression is that this is a dark, dark cigar. No tooth to the wrapper, very slight veins, and well wrapped, this cigar presents itself well. The PG is a 5×52 robusto so the muted-color band dominates this smaller cigar. I must say that this cigar just looks great.

Taste: This cigar has as many flavors as it does tobacco from different regions of the world. Being as its tobacco comes from Peru, Mexico, Brazil, Columbia, and Ecuador you can expect to have different flavors. I got leather, and prominent earth with some coffee and a mild spicy undertone. I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised by this medium body smoke in its complexity. And, it was creamy. I love it when cigars are creamy, and this one didn’t disappoint.

Aroma: Holding the cigar to my nose I had leather and coffee. The plentiful smoke was mild and not unpleasant.

Construction: As with most Graycliffs, this was a little soft when lightly squeezing it. It almost seems under-filled. However, the draw was absolutely perfect. The burn leaves a little to be desired, but that could have been the Houston heat and humidity more than anything.

Overall: Graycliff won me over with this stick. While a bit pricey still, this is one stick that backs up the great Graycliff reputation. If you haven’t had one yet, I suggest you pick a few up. You won’t be disappointed at all.

Cigar Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
