Cigar Review: Padilla Series 68 Robusto

I know its been a while since I put up a review here for you guys. Yesterday I was at my local cigar shop, and he got in a box of these Padilla Series 68 Robustos, and I have always been a Padilla fan, as well as a Pepin fan, as I like that spicy profile that they both give off. After I got done smoking it, I figured there was no better cigar for me to review for you guys, so here you go!

Appearance: This cigar was just about flawless. It was wrapped perfectly, and double capped nicely. It was a double banded cigar, but the way they put them both on, it was looking like one nice band. This was one beautiful looking cigar, and I couldn’t wait to get into it!

Pre-light: As I do with all my cigars, I ran this one across my nose, to pick up some smells. I got some nice leathery hints with some spiciness. I clipped the end of the cigar with my ever trusty Palio cutter, and it was perfectly cut as usual. At this point, I took a pre-light draw, and got those same flavors of spice and leather, with a few hints of cedar. It was looking like this was going to be no exception to my love for Padilla products!

1/3: As I lit it up, the first few puffs, in addition to giving me billowing smoke, gave me lots of cedar and leather flavors, with a small hint of peppery spice to follow. The flavors didn’t linger to long on the pallate but that might have had something to do with my libation of choice washing it down, a Mirror Pond IPA brew, which was going quite nicely with this cigar. The smoke continued to billow from this cigar, the draw was a little tight, but not so much that it was going to stop me from enjoying it. It was burning perfectly straight, and the ash was holding strong.

2/3: As I started to inch to the 1/2 way mark, I found myself really enjoying this cigar. I was trying to play darts with the owner of my home cigar lounge, but I found myself too engrossed in the cigar to concentrate on throwing darts, so I took a few minutes to savor it. I was enjoying it still. The leather flavors started to mellow out, and the peppery spice kicked up a notch. About the 1/2 way point, I decided to ash the cigar, as I didn’t want get ashes all over me. The cigar was still burning perfectly straight, and the smoke was still billowing nicely. I was really enjoying this smoke!

3/3: As I was finishing up this robusto, I was surprised how long it lasted. I started the cigar at about 11am, and I didn’t put it down until 12:30. The last bits of flavors I got from this cigar were lots of peppery spice, with some leather. It was fairly consistant over all. Not too complex, but it doesn’t need to be when it tastes this good! I really enjoyed it down to the end, and now that its getting close to over, I am wanting more. This was a good cigar, and I plan on picking up another one shortly.

Overall Impression: Overall, this Padilla product did not dissapoint me. Just like all Padilla’s other cigars, this one was a GOOD smoke. If you like spice, and leathery cedar flavors, I highly recommend picking one of these up.

Cigar Rating: 3 1/2 out of 5 stars
